When I started, I had no idea what value I can bring to the company. I remember the words of my supervisor on the day I started my carreer:
“8 yrs from now you will say you have 8 years of experience. What will it mean?
It can be 8 years of experience with continuous challenges year after year or it can be one year’s experience repeated eight times… And the difference is huge. The choice is yours.”

That’s when I decided to learn how step out of my comfort zone continuously and have a remarkable career.

Initially, I had no idea what I was doing. I was lucky with the trainings and the challenges I got. Even if I made mistakes I learned quickly: execution is king.

You don’t have to have the best solution for every issue. If you have a good enough solution, then you can fix things quickly and improve them by time. You will gain results and your customers will be satisfied faster.

The better I became the more I started to share my knowledge. I started to build teams and became proud of what they achieved.

I gained experience in product design, program management and operations. The challenges involved plant launch, product development, production transfers and stabilization, business development, continuous improvements and restructuring.  As a GM of a leading automotive company in Hungary I also had to close the plant and move the business out of the country. 

These all required team building and motivational skills. I became great in running operations and also expert in crisis management. It does not matter which mode I was in, there was no shortcut allowed, each action had to support sustainable results.

Sounds familiar? I got similar tasks many times. When I usually meet the team it quickly becomes evident that they usually have aspirations and they know how to fix the issues.   • Transferred lines with poor performance were improved in 6 months. The output increased by 20% while continuous production reduced to 5-days-production and scrap went down by 60%.
  • Product line running in backlog and customers on-site on regular basis for years were taken out of escalation within a year. Customers were out of the doors quickly and after stabilization the productivity skyrocketed.

    Restructuring, Plant Closure

    You are facing a restructuring or even worse, you want to close a plant. On time and within budget. Without stopping your customer. You might have a plan. 
    You know that you need to have a communication plan and define a core team you want to keep til the end. There will be extreme pressure during execution. Some of them might give up (some will) and you might expect increased fluctuation (you will). There is a risk quality might suffer (it will) and the customers might escalate and become demanding (they will). As you reduce the headcount the structure changes – the less people you have the more hats they will have to wear (they will). Processes might get mixed (they will). Getting support from other sister plant will be nearly impossible. They would need to release the professional with the most experience. They can give support for a few days (they will) but not for weeks (they won’t). They don’t understand what you are doing and why you need to manage things differently. You will not be able to keep the processes and keep the same controls. Compliance gets questioned many times. As the core team gets shrinked many unfinished tasks will show up and you will have to manage them quickly. Dealing with lawyers, customers, suppliers and still keeping financials. And timing. You get more and more vulnerable. The situations can get scary like hell. 
    And that is okay. This is dealing with ambiguity.
    You can manage that and you will. The key is to keep the focus. Simplify the message. Great leaders are great communicate complex situations in a simple form. This helps their team.
    Make sure your core team is keeping the focus also and they don’t have to think about anything else. Keep them motivated. Frequent communication to everyone. Identify the risks and mitigate them. When shit hits the fan, act fast. No need to know all steps in advance, just keep the control. I will help you thru this journey.
